Waddell & Reed ranks top 10 for advisors with CFP® certification

number 10 in CFP professionals
June 1, 2020 –
For more than 80 years Waddell & Reed, Inc. has maintained a simple, genuine and straightforward approach to developing long-lasting client relationships through financial planning. We support this core element of our heritage by encouraging advisors to earn the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification. And we celebrate it with our recent No. 10 ranking of independent broker-dealers with the highest number of CFP® professionals, based on InvestmentNews’ 2019 independent broker-dealer survey*.

In 2019, 21% of advisors affiliated with Waddell & Reed were CFP® professionals, up 8.2% from 2018. At the end of 2019 there were 86,378 CFP®s in the U.S., up 3.9% from the end of 2018. The data were collected from firms that participated in InvestmentNews' independent broker-dealer survey.

Another way Waddell & Reed supports the CFP® standard of excellence is through the Waddell & Reed CFP® Exam Reimbursement Award, presented annually to a peer counselor in Kansas State University’s Powercat Financial program. The monetary award supports the firm’s efforts in communicating respect for higher education, reinforcing dedication to financial planning and enhancing public awareness about the value of the financial planning process.

The 2019 award recipient is Thomas Meek, a senior in the College of Health and Human Sciences’ personal financial planning program. Meek will receive $625 toward reimbursement of the standard CFP® exam registration fee and $1,000 for reimbursement of a CFP® exam review course.

*InvestmentNews ranking is based on 2019 total CFP®s as reported by 59 of the 133 independent broker-dealers surveyed.
